Alligators are the largest Lizards in North America. The American alligator is found in the United States from North Carolina to the Rio Grande in Texas. However, they are not usually found in the Rio Grand in Cochiti Pueblo unless you count this one carved by Salvador Romero. Hewn from a stone Salvador found while walking through the southwestern landscape this large lizard has a crust of desert patina that colors the scutes along the back and the eyes. About 7 3/4" long, 2 5/8" wide, and 1" tall.
