Star-Sprinkled Lapis Earrings

By Eric Othole, Cochiti-Zuni

This offering is sold.

Distinguished jeweler Eric Othole emerges from his studio with an unparalleled level of excellence, skill and innovation. He recently dropped by our Keshi gallery with these impeccable reticulated sterling silver and vibrant lapis lazuli dangle earrings. He shared several fascinating jewelry techniques employed throughout his creative process.

For example, the fabulous texturing is achieved from a specialized hammer hand piece that acts like a tiny jackhammer. Eric utilizes it for the lovely stippling around the outer border of the earrings. The stunning star motif is surrounded by custom engraving from a hand engraver pushed by the palm to carve into the silver. Another essential tool in Eric's arsenal is a coping saw that cuts out all the tiny details in the overlay work. He also carves into the background with little lines to give another layer of dimension to these one of a kind earrings. Small stilts or platforms give even more dimensionality to these layered adornments.

These medium-weight designer's earrings are about 2 3/4" long including the exquisite handmade French hooks, 7/8" wide and 1/8" deep. Signed by the artist on the reverse side that's gorgeously hand-stamped.
