Desert varnish is a natural incrustation or textural layer formed from microscopic organisms and cemented clay particles found on many stones and boulders throughout the great Southwest. Salvador Romero's horned Owl hosts desert varnish on the found stone, carved to a perched size of approximately 6 1/8" tall, 4" wide and 1 1/2" deep. We love the residual desert varnish on the nose and wings of this special raptor. Eyes are drilled.
