All animals have the same right to hunt and kill for food as humans. Feeling no hatred towards them, many Indigenous cultures appreciate the spiritual and ecological importance of wild canines like coyotes. Traditional worldview is balanced, regarding humans as part of Mother Earth in an interconnected way, where most others view humans as separate and dominant over nature. Coyotes have curative powers. The Kiowa held a public thanksgiving in 1839 for an actual coyote who stayed close to an injured warrior, lying down licking his wounds, standing guard and giving him the courage not to give up until help arrived. Kenric Laiwakete's Coyote (Wolf or Fox) has been carved from a fossil stone to a size of roughly 2 1/4" long, 3/8" wide and 2 1/8" tall. Expressive eyes and a heartline or breath path are from turquoise inlays.
