Wonderful magpies are the chatterboxes of Mother Earth's forests. Hundreds of Indigenous names exist for magpie. Their commonly used name maybe derived from a shortened French name "Margot" or "Margaret", which in the late 14th century was used to label women who were thought to chatter idly. "Pie" may originate from piebald used for the white patches found on magpies. Calvert Bowannie's intelligent corvid is carved from black marble with turquoise eyes and wing epaulette overlays. A colorful coral bead is a prized possession of this approximately 2 1/8" long, 1 1/8" wide and 1 1/8" tall wise corvid.
