Indigenous Zuni travertine has been nicely chiseled into a domed shell
Turtle or tortoise. Nice eyes are from turquoise, while a beak and neck are great features. A jazzy carapace is dotted with inlays from turquoise and finished off with an iridescent pink mussel shell inlay at the crown. In Zuni Pueblo, turtle shells are prized for making rattles used by the Rain Dancers. About 2 1/4" long, 1 3/8" wide and 1 1/8" tall, by Delvin Leekya.
