Ammolite Bear

By Mike Yatsayte

Animal: Bear, Material: Ammolite
This offering is sold.

Starting as an apprentice in the early 1990s for his uncles Terry and Kent Banteah, Mike Yatsayte has been carving ever since. A little Medicine-bear was carved from an ammolite by Mike. Ammolite is an opalized ammonite mollusk fossil. Specific geological and mineralogical processes along with aragonite had to work together to create this iridescent gemstone. When held to a light source you can see subtle fiery green and light red or pink hues within this Bear. Its precious eyes have been inlaid with turquoise. About 1 1/2" long, 3/8" wide and 1 1/4" tall.
