Green abalone live in waters from Point Conception, California, to Bahia de Magdalena, Mexico. Shallow water environments on open or exposed coasts are their preferred habitats. Gloria Chattin's reversible carving shows the lovely green hue and magical iridescence of a green abalone specimen. The Corn-Maidens are accompanied by etched Corn and Dragonflies. Colorful overlays include turquoise, lapis, malachite and red coral discs. Facial features are incised and filled with jet paste. The carving is permanently attached to a lovely base from vibrant lapis lazuli along with crushed turquoise to represent life-giving water that nourishing the gift of corn. About 3 1/4" tall, 1 1/4" wide and 1 1/8" deep, measurements include base.
