Otter & Crab Friend

Indigenous Coastal communities have coexisted with sea otters and shellfish for thousands of years. Because of the fur trade that started in the 1700's and other non-Native interference, sea otter and other animal populations have suffered. Nowadays conventional science is realizing that incorporating Indigenous science and knowledge aides in restoring marine landscapes. Robert Michael Weahkee's burnished antler sea otter floats on its back happily holding a crab companion. Both water creatures have turquoise inlaid eyes. An offering necklace contains gorgeous aquamarine and amethyst beads. Approximately 3 3/4" long, 7/8" wide and 7/8" tall.
