Lorandina Sheche's cougar (Mountain-lion, puma or panther) with large turquoise eyes is carved from onyx secured with a gorgeous soapstone point. Her grandfather was the late Theodore Kucate who was possibly the earliest recognized carver from Zuni. His fetishes had a friendliness to them as do Lorandina's. The Sheche family is well-known for carving old style fetishes like those found in Frank H. Cushing's 1883 book Zuni Fetishes. About 3" long, 3/4" wide and 1 3/8" tall.
