Sgraffito is a decorative art form where a surface layer is etched away to expose a different colored ground. Nelson Yatsattie utilized this age-old technique of ornamentation to create amazing body, face and tail plumage on an onyx Owl. Incised talons are a sweet touch as well. Tiny focused eyes are from turquoise inlays. Old-growth forests are shrinking in the United States and Canada because of the high value of timber. Open grasslands are dwindling too. These places are where owls call home. We can help by leaving old trees in place that have natural holes where owls need to nest. Approximately 2 5/8" tall, 2 3/8" wide and 1 1/4" deep.
