Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez's gift for carving yields another beauty, a Tablita Corn-Maiden hewn from an orthoceras fossil stone. A tablita is a traditional headdress worn during ceremonial dances. She centered the ancient orthoceras fossil to highlight an incised corn body, while facial features are from overlaid picture jasper, etched and filled with jet paste. Incised corn adorns the front of the headdress, while on the reverse side, a starry-etched night finds an incised Dragonfly hovering as a crescent moon rises. A subtle natural inclusion or even part of the orthoceras fossil resembles that moon. Approximately 3 3/4" tall, 1 5/8" wide and 3/4" deep.
