Zuni artist Bryston Bowannie has been carving rocks since 1988. His favorite stones to work with are the black, white and Picasso marbles. He said he's tried a lot of rocks but not all will hold detail and that jasper and marble are the most sturdy. Marble generally handles well without the stone chipping unpredictably. Sculpted from black marble, the turquoise-eyed
Bison is about 2 1/2" long, 3/4" wide and 1 3/4" tall. We love its curved horns and softly detailed mane and gentle face.
