Maxx Laate carves a lot in antler. His latest offering is a watchful
Bear or polar bear with a turned head and guarded eyes from turquoise inlays. He started carving in 1987 with a pocket knife and his late brother Pernell Laate assisted him. Together they learned the art and referred to magazines, wildlife postcards and books to get an idea of how an animal might act in its environment. About 1 1/2" long, 1 1/8" wide and roughly 1 3/4" tall.
