Amusing Squirrel

Robert Michael Weahkee learned to carve from his grandmother the late Edna Leki and gained experience in art markets with his late aunt Lena Boone. He was inspired to carve in antler by his great grandfather, the late Teddy Weahkee. Today he only carves in antler. He said that inspiration comes from the family style although he has developed a unique whimsical approach all his own. He loves how antler can be versatile, shined and polished yet rough and textured at the same time. We're adoring a busy squirrel or chipmunk with turquoise eyes sculpted from burnished antler to a size of approximately 1 3/4" tall, 3 1/8" wide and 1 7/8" deep.
