Handsome Afghan travertine is found in several regions of Afghanistan, beloved for elegant colors such as the honey-hues seen in master carver Loren Tsalabutie's standing Bear. The reflective glossy surface enhances the natural beauty of the stone. Teeny tiny eyes from turquoise inlays focus on the opponent as this approximately 3" tall, 3 1/2" long and 3" deep bear establishes dominance during mating season. A miniature offering necklace is laced with rich red coral and bright sodalite beads. Loren was taught to carve at the age of 13 by his father, the late great artist Jeffery Tsalabutie who told him to always give his carvings "life movement, always flowing".
