We're happy to welcome Stewart Awelagte to keshi.com. He is the father of noted carver Burt Awelagte. Intricately carved cottonwood decorated with colorful acrylics, fur, yarn, leather, cloth and ribbon represents the Cow Katsina who appears at the Wakashi Dance. The origins of the Wakashi Dance are thought to have been brought by Hopi men attending Sha'lak'o in 1908 or possibly brought home to Zuni by a Zuni man who'd observed it at Hopi. The Cow Katsina's prayers and dance are for plentiful animal life, representing their self-sacrifice as food supply. Dimensions including base are approximately 7 1/8" tall, 3" wide and 2 5/8" deep.
