DH Mavapu is a distinctive potter from Zuni with Hopi ties known for creative Owls that bring a fresh perspective to the traditional medium. He studied with noted Zuni artists Phil Hughte and the late Jennie Laate. Tablita raptor's beak, wings and tail feathers are shaped in three dimensions. Every square inch of this original piece is colorfully adorned with mostly natural pigments as well as ceramic paints. A wide-eyed expression reminds us that an owl can see what others cannot. About 6" tall, 5 1/4" wide and 3 3/4" deep, from natural clay. Signed by the artist with a corn motif and the word Mu:Shiwi which means Hopi-Zuni.
