Studded with colorful alunite inlays and etched stars, Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez's turquoise Corn Maiden offers prayers of thanks for the abundance of corn. In Zuni Pueblo tradition, Corn Maidens saved the People from famine by nourishing them with sacred corn kernels from their bodies. In a slightly leaning stance, measurements are about 1 1/2" tall, 1 1/4" wide and 3/4" deep. Facial features are etched and filled with jet paste.
