Many ancient Pueblo stories include parrots or macaws. They symbolize the sun and are associated with summer and salt gathering among other reasons. In the Zuni way, many birds are believed to carry prayers to the sky and clouds, asking for blessings and rainfall. Exotic parrots have been part of North American Indigenous cultures due to the advanced and extensive trade system that existed since the beginning. Daryl Shack, Sr.'s lovely dolomite parrot has cultured opal eyes and measures a perched and approximate 2 1/2" long, 1/2" wide and 1" tall.
