Fascinating shrews are not a rodent like a Mouse but a member of an ancient Mammalian order Insectivora. These beneficial creatures have ultra sensitive whiskers known as vibrissae that help them hunt by touch and smell. They benefit farmers by consuming many crop-destroying pests. Leaving some leaf litter in our yards helps create nesting spots for little shrews. Melvin Sandoval's super plump shrew has been sculpted from a rich Picasso marble to a size of roughly 1 3/8" long, 7/8" wide and 1 1/4" tall presented on a carved turquoise point or perhaps a leaf base.
