Iridescent smoky mother-of-pearl shell is a magical palette for a quartet of Corn-Maiden sisters accompanied by numerous stars and Dragonflies. They emerge from the ancient multi-storied village. The Maiden's soothing faces are overlaid with golden gold lip shell, incised and filled with jet paste. Etched sacred Corn is present on their bodies. For the A:Shiwi (The People), long ago Corn Maidens saved them from famine and drought by providing nourishment from their corn bodies. Slightly convex, Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez's glorious work measures about 3 1/2" long, 5/8" wide and 2 3/4" tall.
