Zuni artist Rickson Kallestewa is a gentle soul creating animal carvings with the same spirit. He desires his art to "bring happiness, kindness, strength and peace to everybody’s heart." An elegant long-tailed Mountain-lion (puma, panther or cougar) holds a precious jar with a corn kernel offering. The miniature container is etched and accented with perhaps chrysocolla and malachite paste in designs forming rainclouds and a colorful Dragonfly both symbolizing life-giving water. Clawed paws and a warm gaze are incised and filled with perhaps jet and pipestone paste. About 4 1/8" long, 7/8" wide and 2 3/8" tall, masterfully sculpted from one piece of alabaster.
