Zuni Pueblo artist Maxx Laate is a master in the realm of tiny scale carvings all while maintaining an amazing attention to detail. This is why his latest work threw us for a loop. A superb moose with turquoise eyes is carved from shed antler, a typical medium for Maxx, however this moose measures about about 9" tall, 4 3/4" wide by 3 1/4" deep. In nature, a grand moose is a great representation of self-confidence. With awkward long limbs and a huge crown of antlers, the moose is able to move through the world with elegance and a commanding presence. Using his own confidence and artistry, Maxx was able to visualize the animal in the material and beautifully incorporate the natural crown of the antler into the collectible piece.
