Indigenous Peoples believe whales are ancient beings, a source of wisdom and divinity. Whales inspire with their graceful majesty and beautiful mysterious music. Danette Laate's precious whale has been carved from onyx and given turquoise eyes. Etched ventral pleats or folds start at the jaw and run vertically down the underside. In nature, the pleats expand helping whales scoop up giant mouthfuls of water and food when eating. About 1 3/4" long, 1/2" wide and 1" tall.

A uniquely placed heartline or breath path is set with colorful turquoise, red coral and jet in Danette Laate's Horse carving. The heartline seems to point to a Zuni Sunface symbol, which is set from the same materials. The Sunface represents the elements in balance. Dimensions of this picture jasper equine friend are approximately 2 3/4" long, 3/8" wide and 1 1/2" tall. Eyes are from turquoise inlays.
