Antler Prong Corn Maiden

By Garrick Weeka

Animal: Corn Maiden, Material: Antler
This offering is sold.

Carved from a single antler prong by Garrick Weeka, an assured Corn Maiden stands at about 4" tall, 3/4" wide by 1" deep. Zuni Pueblo tradition says that during the old-days Corn-Maidens saved The People from famine and drought by nourishing them with the sacred corn kernels from their bodies. Wisdom-filled eyes and mouth are from turquoise inlays. The graceful figure is accented with a myriad of red coral inlays. Delicate incising of corn kernels and whorled hair brings depth and character to this fabulous carving.
