The name chipmunk may originate from the Indigenous Algonquin word jidmoonh which is pronounced chit-moon and means squirrel. It may also have origins with the Ojibwe word ajidamoo which translates to "one who descends trees headlong". Ray Tsalate's spunky chipmunk or squirrel has been masterfully sculpted from burnished antler. Eyes and little nose are from pen shell inlays. A shell point offering is accompanied by branch red coral and faceted turquoise beads. About 1 1/4" long, 3/4" wide and 1" tall.
