For many ancient Indigenous Mesoamerican cultures, Snakes were used to guard stored corn, a life-giving food. They were associated with spiritual power and rebirth. Wall of Coatepantli or Serpents decorated many sacred spaces too. Michael Coble's serpentine reptile has softly etched scales and a rattler conveying sleek movement. Eyes are from turquoise inlays. Removing vital snakes from any ecosystem could result in an increase of rodent populations creating issues like crop destruction and the spread of disease. About 3 1/2" long, 1 3/4" wide and 1/2" tall.
