Amber is basically fossilized tree resin. In prehistoric times certain trees exuded a sticky, clean resin to heal and protect its bark from bacteria, fungi and insects. As it oozed out the resin trapped anything in its path and simultaneously prevented decay thanks to the resin's antiseptic nature. Maxx Laate's inquisitive Mountain-lion (cougar, panther or puma) cub with long tail has been sculpted from an appealing warm amber specimen to a size of about 1 1/8" long, 1/2" wide and 1/2" tall. Eyes are curious in nature, from turquoise inlays.
