Zuni jeweler Tracey Bowekaty's tiered corn dangle earrings are carved from iridescent gold lip shell, bright orange spiny oyster shell and turquoise, accented with coral, malachite, alunite, lapis lazuli and jet inlays. They remind us of flint, calico or Native corn known for colorful kernels which come from cross-pollination during growth. It originated from wild grass in Mesoamerica thousands of years ago. Indigenous Peoples cultivated this grass into corn developing hundreds of varieties used for food and traditional purposes. They knew it was a gift from the Creator and revere it to this day. Including hooks, these colorful lightweight sterling silver beauties dangle at about 3 1/8" long, 1/2" wide and 1/8" deep. Signed by the artist.
