Mighty rams or bighorn sheep establish dominance with other males through head-butting with impacts beyond belief. One will prevail and the other may stumble but the mating rights build skills for both participants. Their animal medicine teaches us to face challenges head-on instead of avoiding them. They make us stronger and we learn from them. Salvador Romero's nicely-sized ram with awesome curved horns can remind us to be fearless, persevere and get back up even though we may fall down. About 7 1/4" long, 1 1/2" wide and 4" tall, masterfully sculpted from a light green-hued found stone.
Cochiti Pueblo's tribal conservation programs will receive a federal grant to assist in monitoring Bighorn sheep populations and to access the health of the animals after the devastating 2022 Cerro Pelado wildfires. Habitats will be restored by the replanting of fire-resistant vegetation.
