During the Ice Age tens of thousands of years ago, Indigenous Peoples walked across Lake Otero located within the Tularosa basin leaving fossilized footprints behind. The area which is now part of White Sands National Park in New Mexico was like a wetland. Among the fossilized footprints are those of incredible creatures like camels, mammoths, dire wolves and ground sloths. Saber-toothed tigers journeyed there too. Known for their foot-long fangs, which were as long if not longer than a Tyrannosaurus dinosaur, the ambush hunters bit down with super powerful force. Research has revealed that a saber-toothed kitten's famous fangs didn't erupt until around 3 years of age. Salvador Romero honors the mighty saber-toothed tiger gracefully shaped from found stone to a dimension of roughly 7 1/4" long, 1 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall.
