Talkative parrots have been integral to many ancient Indigenous cultures for thousands of years. They were regarded as spiritual messengers and were treated with great care even ritually buried as discovered in archeological sites at Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. Their bright colors have been associated with fertility and life. Brandon Phillips has carved a darling parrot from onyx and sgraffito-etched plumage in an attractive way. Tail feathers are from a turquoise, jet, mother-of-pearl and pipestone mosaic overlay. A precious oversized beak and watchful eyes are from turquoise. About 2 1/2" tall, 1/2" wide and 1 5/8" deep.
