A Tablita Corn-Maiden is carved from a handsome orthoceras fossil stone. Orthoceras mollusks lived in ancient Ordovician waters millions of years ago. Their aragonite shells fossilized into a white-like calcite which now is an attractive contrast to the dark limestone they hardened in. We're admiring Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez's use of the main fossil to beautify an etched corn body. A lone alunite stone adds a purple richness to the carving. Facial features are from overlaid shell, etched and filled with jet paste. Airy Dragonflies are incised into the headdress that is worn during ceremonial dances. About 4" tall, 1 1/2" wide and 1" deep.
