A traditional pottery Owl is reflective of the many years of experience noted Zuni potter Carlos Laate brings to the table. He acknowledges that Mother Earth gives all the materials to work with, no traders and money exchanged to get what is already provided like the natural clay sourced from the Nutria area of the Zuni reservation and the local yucca fruit that provides the dark paint pigments. This raptor's horns, little wings and tail feathers are creatively presented in three dimensions. A wide-eyed expression reminds us of the fact that an owl can see what others cannot. In Zuni many homes have a pottery Night Grandfather Owl watching over them. About 2 1/2" tall, 2" wide and 1 1/2" deep. A collectible pottery work that's signed by the artist.
