Luscious wild peonies from China were domesticated for medicinal purposes about two thousand years ago. An important Imperial symbol during the Tang Dynasty, they were extensively grown in royal gardens, a measure of status and power. We're adoring this specimen of rhodochrosite which calls to mind layers of peony petals. It's an incredible mineral with an organic pink color resulting from the manganese content, perfect in its natural beauty just like the peony flower. Brian Yatsattie sources extraordinary materials to carve collectible animals like this rhodochrosite Medicine-Bear that measures about 3 1/4" long, 1/2" wide and 2" tall. Either side is equally beautiful. Gentle eyes are from jet inlays.
