Blue Jays are social feathered friends who are seriously smart and very talkative. A garden Blue Jay is perched on a budding red rose branch in Derrick Edaakie's stunning pendant. Handmade in the overlay inlay jewelry technique, great skill in lapidary and silversmithing are a must for a successful presentation. The sterling silver started out as a sheet laboriously sawed out to leave a negative space of design. Another piece of silver was annealed to it. Colorful turquoise, iridescent abalone, bright red coral, watery mother-of-pearl, bold jet and rich pen shell were meticulously hand cut and inlaid bringing this approximately 1 7/8" long, 1 1/8" wide and 1/16" thick affordable work of wearable art to life.
