Roadrunners are revered for courage, endurance and speed by many Indigenous cultures. The bird’s X-shaped footprints with two toes pointing in each direction are sacred symbols that disguise the direction the bird is heading, preventing anything from following. Nelson Yatsattie's hunting roadrunner has been sculpted with spirit from Hestermanite, a stone in the marble family. Determined eyes are from turquoise set to a sgraffito-etched crested head. Nelson shared that he likes making art because "It just takes everything out of your mind, when you get into your work. You put everything into it - you leave all the negativity out, and you put all the positivity in - your whole soul." About 3 7/8" long, 7/8" wide and roughly 1 1/2" tall.
