By Hayes Leekya

Animal: Frog, Material: Zuni Travertine
This offering is sold.
After a long winter lying dormant beneath the water, Hayes Leekya's indigenous Zuni travertine Frog does a happy dance for spring's arrival. Soon mating season will be underway for important frogs who are a sign of water. In Zuni Pueblo, frogs often appear on prayer bowls and dances are given asking for water in the form of rain or snow. They’re considered a major rain-bringing fetish, associated with abundance, fertility and cleansing. Expressive eyes are from pen shell in mother-of-pearl, while turquoise accents adorn this approximately 2 1/4" tall, 1 1/2" wide and 1" deep water creature.
