Peacocks are colorful pheasants in the peafowl family. They were designated as the national bird of India in 1963. Known as mayura in Sanskrit, peacocks hold an honored place often depicted in temple art, mythology, poetry, music and traditions. Bryston Bowannie's foraging bird from travertine displays a relaxed train with etched eye spots. A male peacock spreads his tail feathers to display a spectacular fan of blue and green. Each feather hosts an eye-like shape giving the illusion of large penetrating eyes. Not only do these eyes attract mates, but they also scare away potential predators and act as camouflage. Eyes are from turquoise inlays. About 1 3/4" long, 1/2" wide and 3/4" tall.
