Fred Bowannie Jr.'s pen-shell eyed bear is carved from an indigenous limestone from the Nutria area of the Zuni reservation. A stunning onyx point, heishe, spiny oyster shell, turquoise and branch red coral offering bundle gives thanks for a bear's journeying ways. Fred is from the greater Natewa, the late Dallas Quam and Panteah extended family of Zuni artists. His relatives include carvers Bryston and Calvert Bowannie. He loves hiking with fellow carver and friend Felino Eriacho in search of the best stones. About 4" long, 1 1/2" wide and 2 7/8" tall.
