Keli'i Eli, Zuni-Hawaiian
is backordered. We will ship it separately when it becomes available.
In tribute to the magnificence and importance of elephants, Keli'i Eli carved this extraordinary and realistic pachyderm from Indiana limestone, a beautiful choice. He said the quality and texture of this limestone complimented the color of an elephant's skin.
Keli'i knows first hand what these amazing animals are like, because during a naval world tour from 2004 to 2008, he spent time in Thailand. He witnessed how the Thai's revered them. In fact, he stated: "While there, I learned that the people adorned Elephants for their strength, endurance and most of all, their intelligence. Elephants there have had a long supportive role in Thai society and were heavily used in warfare centuries ago - they were also helpful during agricultural planting of crops and hauled logs and farm produce long distances. There are many poachers that kill and steal for their ivory, I’m just glad I was fortunate enough to be in the presence of these magnificent beings and to know that there are folks out there that care for them like human beings."
With a raised trunk and one foot forward, Keli's inspiring elephant's eyes are of inlaid Pennsylvania jet. Keli'i said he meticulously water-sanded and polished them by hand, to a lustrous shine. About 5 1/2" long, 2 1/2" wide and 4" tall. Extra shipping charges may apply.
