Planted seeds become bountiful
Corn, a sacred crop to Pueblo Peoples, including the Zunis who were farmers. Meant to nourish and in turn give thanks in the form of a cornmeal offering, corn is a gift from Creator. Ancient corn cobs tell a story of when indigenous peoples started collecting and consuming a wild grass called teosinte. The plant eventually became modern maize, known as corn or sweetcorn. Renowed Kewa Pueblo jeweler and elder Mary C. Lovato handmade these striking corn mosaic earrings from sterling silver, red coral and turquoise, elegantly set a top a bed of melon shell. They honor life-giving corn. About 2 1/2" long including lovely hooks. They are 1" wide tapering to 5/8" wide. Signed by the artist.
