Wolves and other wild canines teach us spiritual values like cultivating strong families and being good leaders. Many Indigenous societies regard wolves as sacred, including them in stories of origin as first ancestors who were transformed from wolves into men. A wolf is one of the revered animals within a Six-Directions grouping, associated with strong hunting powers by the A:Shiwi (Zuni). Lewis Malie's energetic wolf is carved from one piece of antler to a dimension of about 3 1/4" tall, 1 3/8" wide and 2 3/4" deep. Focused eyes are accented with graphite.
