An energetic Hummingbird sips nectar from an obliging flower in Derrick and Nichelle Edaakie's stunning handmade sterling silver pin/pendant constructed in the overlay inlay jewelry technique. Much skill and patience in both lapidary and silversmithing skills are required for a successful overlay inlay presentation. The sterling silver started out as a sheet that was laboriously sawed out to leave a negative space of design. Another piece of silver was annealed to it. Colorful gifts from Mother Earth such as turquoise, pen shell, coral, pink mussel shell and abalone were meticulously hand cut and inlaid bringing this approximately 1" in diameter piece to life. The pollinator's plumage is intricately etched, a lovely touch. Signed by the artists.
