By Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez, Zuni-Acoma

Animal: Corn Maiden, Material: Septarian Nodule
This offering is sold.

Septarian nodules are basically mud or clay balls that formed in ancient days and then fossilized. Crystalline calcite filled in the cracks in the clay mud. Dark lines can be seen along the edges of these inclusions, these are aragonite. Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez's Corn-Maiden has been carved from a septarian nodule with a stunning section of aragonite that's as rich as root beer. Facial features are from mother-of-pearl, etched and filled with jet paste, while a vibrant lapis lazuli cabochon adorns. Approximately 1 5/8" tall, 1 1/2" wide and 3/4" deep.
