As the first fallen leaves of autumn blanket the ground, a perched Turkey vulture grunts to fellow raptors as they prepare for their annual migration to warmer locales. Bandelier National Monument is said to have one of New Mexico's largest turkey vulture roosts. Many Indigenous communities associate vultures with cleansing and wisdom because they are Mother Earth's clean up crew consuming things that if left untouched, would spread sickness and disease. Carved from found stone, Salvador Romero's wonderful bird is nicely-sized at approximately 7 1/4" long, 1" wide and 3 3/8" tall.
