Jet is a natural fossilized coal derived from wood that changed under extreme pressure in times long past. It's not considered a mineral but a mineraloid. Examples of mineraloids include coal, glass and obsidian, which are materials that don't meet all the criteria of what are considered true minerals with crystal structures. Whenever Herbert Halate's gifted hands touch jet, his animal carvings seem to be poured into existence. His latest offering is a bold Bison with softly etched fur markings. Turquoise inlaid eyes feel perceptive. About 4 1/2" long, 1 1/8" wide and 2 1/2" tall.
