At high noon when the sun is hot, a majestic Bison is usually resting, chewing cud or wallowing in the dirt. They are most active during the chilly early morning or cool late afternoon hours. Bison continue to be a keystone species because strong hooves aerate the soil cultivating seeds important to ecosystems. In Zuni Pueblo, a Buffalo Katsina comes with a Buffalo Maiden during ceremonial dances. Vivella Cheama's bright lapis-eyed bovine has been carved from fish rock serpentine with a lovely flicking tail, ear and rich mane details. About 2 1/2" long, 1" wide and 1 1/2" tall.
