Gilbert Lonjose's wonderful Corn Maiden is carved from fish rock serpentine and accented with colorful turquoise inlays. Facial features are from jet paste while hair is styled in traditional whorls. Individual corn kernels are cleanly incised. For the A:Shiwi (Zuni), Corn Maidens saved The People from famine by nourishing them with sacred corn kernels from their bodies. Measurements are about 2" tall, 1" wide and 1 1/4" deep.
